The DMM LLANBERIS 5K will be held on the 15th July 2015 at 6.45pm, a few days before the main event of the International Snowdon Race.

The idea of the NEW RACE, came from the committee, discussing, as you have Bangor 10K, Llanfairpwll 5k, Deiniolen 10K, “why not have a Llanberis 5km” and why not!!!

As we are organising a full week’s activities around the main event to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Snowdon Race. I think it was an ideal opportunity for us to hold a LLANBERIS 5KM.

The new race will give the opportunity for new runners to venture out and try a 5km in a competitive way or use the race as a new challenge or as a warm up for the main event on Saturday.

It will be limited to 200+ athletes who will have the experience of racing from the village of Llanberis up through the streets of Llanberis and then on to the trails and mountains side, with breath taking scenery. Looking down on the village, Moel Eilio look over you, Snowdon in the distance, Moel Gynhorion, Foel Goch and the climb up to Capel Hebron

The race route will be up and down and will start on the high street next to the Joe Brown CORNER Shop and Pantri café, which will be open late on the evening.

From The start it will be a steady climb then on tarmac passing the Library, School, Capel Coch, then bank left and the climb starts, towards YHA Hostel, and up through Hafod Farm (beware of camp site and farm animals).

A Challenging climb to the top and then turn left on to a rather rough road, but flat, towards Bont Hwch, through 2 gates (these will be open and marshalled) and then turn left again on to the footpath (loose gravel) towards the river crossing and Cae Newydd. Soon after over the river crossing, carry on straight, and the sting in the tail starts. The climb up to Hebron (Station & Chapel) highest point of the race at 278m.

As soon as you reach the chapel, through the gate (gate will be open and marshalled) turn left, back on to tarmac. The descent will start now under Hebron Bridge, then Allt parc and Steffan’s Café on the right, over cattle grid on to Victoria Terrace, then turn left under the Viaduct and on to Church lane.

Passing several houses on church lane, church house and also the rectory and the actual St. Padarn Church (the concert will be here on Sunday), then back on to the high street.
